  1. yes and no  they are really good for your flowering plants cause they have something our plants need to get it flowering, but be careful  if it get too close to your house thats not good....but what you should do is keep all your eggshells and crush them up to almost powder and sprinkle it all over your flower beds, this keep the ants away most of the time it really works, right now I have in my flower beds and there is no ants, I put it cause  I have kids who plays in and around my garden,I live in brampton canada and it works here.

  2. Not sure totally but I know I had a palm fern type of plant and it was badly declining. I pulled a few weeds and found the roots were severely full of ants. Red ants. I put down ant poison and about a week later the plant was putting out new shoots and just thriving! I don't like them in the garden just because I hate pulling weeds and getting ahandful of ant bites!

  3. Carpenter ants are the big red or black ones and they love wood. After all what is a termite? It,s an ant. The love damp areas where moisture stays for a while. Home Depot has some good ant stuff for all types of ants that will get rid of them. Trust me. Not a good thing to have close to the house. The reason they like the garden is because you are watering it all the time . You can get rid of them without harming you or the plants.
