Do any US car rental companies let you buy extra insurance for PART of the time you have the car?

We need to rent a car for 7 days, but we're only going to drive it on 2 of those days. Is there any car rental company that will let us buy the extra insurance for just 2 days, not all 7?

I used to work for Avis. My information may be out of date, but when I worked there, you could not get the additional insurance coverage for only a part of the rental.

A phone call to each rental company will clarify whether that's still the policy.

One possibility is to return the car at the end of the period when you're doing lots of driving, then re-rent it (or another) and not get the insurance. You'd have to play around with rates to see if this could save you money.
