An Unidentified Flying Object, or UFO, is the popular term for any aerial phenomenon that cannot immediately be identified. Some definitions, such as the one used by the USAF, define a UFO as an object unable to be identified after scrutiny, while other definitions define an object as being a UFO from the time it is first reported as being unidentified, even though most subsequently become IFOs, Identified Flying Objects.

Reports of unidentified aerial phenomena date back to ancient times, but modern reports and the first official investigations began during World War II with sightings of so-called foo fighters by Allied airplane crews, and in 1946 with widespread sightings of European "ghost rockets". UFO reports became even more common after the first widely publicized United States UFO sighting, by private pilot Kenneth Arnold in mid 1947. Hundreds of thousands of UFO reports have since been made worldwide.

There are so many people and organizations trying to prove that we are visited by little grey men in flying frisbees, triangle shaped  scouts and cigar shaped mother ships and weird balls of light.Throughout history, mankind has always looked for the strange and unexplained to answer our fears. I have seen things I could call flying saucers, but more likely were things I couldn't see clearly enough to really Identify.search for mufon, or ufo on the internet and you will find volumes of information about stories of reports about this phenomena, then decide for your self what you want to believe.Until we the public actually see one land or crash the debate will go on.Even cave men drew pictures of things they could not explain.

they are "Unidentified"... meaning... if you say they are from Mars... they arent a UFO.

UFOs are spotted all the time.  Many are natural phenomenon... sundogs and swamp gas... the planet Venus... some are fakes, like those mylar balloons in Mexico recently... some are experimental aircraft (rule of thumb, if you live next to an Air Force research facility DON'T BOTHER reporting a UFO... can you figure THIS one out on your own?).

then there is a WHOLE class of UFO sightings that never happened.

UFOs (unidentified flying objects) are only unidentified because the observer lacks the astronomical or meteorological knowledge to identify them. That's why you never hear about UFOs observed by astronomers or meteorologists; they're only reported by people who are unfamiliar with what can be seen in the sky. I've been an amateur astronomer for over fifty years, and have never seen anything in the sky that I haven't been able to identify
