Do any chemicals leach into canned food?

I regularly consume canned food. I've heard that chemicals can leach from the plastic liners used in the cans and contaminate the food therein. Is this true, or simple scaremongering? Also, which chemicals are the ones which might be abrading off into the food?

  1. The one thing I know is that if the can is dented there is a high chance that it has botulism.


  2. keep a can of soda for 9 months - if it does not corrode upon itself before then
