Question:

Do any of the Final Fantasy games from the entire series have ANYTHING against Christianity in them?

First of all, I need answers from fellow Christians, and people who really know what they are talking about...

I am a born again Christian, who believes in the Bible, and everything in it. I believe that God, and Jesus exist, and that the Bible is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

I was wondering....Is there anything in FFX or ANY of the Final Fantasy games that is against God, Jesus, or the Bible? (Or, anything that is evil...) I am really concerned, and I need to know. :)

Thank you so much!

  1. I think all of the answers provided were good.  But remember, just because something isn't Christian, doesn't mean its "against" Christianity.  These are not "Christian" games.  They're just fun games with good stories that are based off of polytheistic concepts.  That doesn't make them "against" anything.  I recommend you do some research on polytheism and from an OBJECTIVE point of view.  Remember, these games are Japanese and Christianity is not the main religion in Japan.  Many of the ideas in these games come from Eastern mythology and the Shinto religion.  Again, that doesn't make them anti-anything.  You have to understand that many religions hold the same values as your religion, and the more you know about other religions, the more you can understand when a person is actually attacking your faith.  I wonder if you even brought it up, so that you may argue your beliefs verses non-Christian beliefs.  I hope not.  That suggests a complete lack in knowledge about non-Christian and non-western culture.  Again, if you want to understand how to relate your faith to something which is not Christian, then do some research on these things, and do it with an opened mind.

Just to give you a head start, polytheism came before Christianity, it is the basis of ancient Egyptian, Roman, and Greek mythology.  It is also the basis of old Pagan philosophy.  Mythology is the current term used because for the most part, these religions are just stories and myths to modern Christians.  So, they are harmless in terms of challenging your faith.  That's not to say that are no modern polytheists, but they are not typically interested in the "evil" you are referring to, nor do they want to impose their beliefs onto Christians.  One big difference between Christianity and modern polytheism, is that Christians feel they must spread the word of Christ and convert others so that they may be saved by Christ's love.  Polytheists don't typically want to convert anyone.  This is just not something that is a part of their faith.  But seriously, it might benefit you as a Christian to know more about these things.

  2. If I am not mistaken there are a few times when ___ damnit is used but I think that's about it

  3. Absolutely not. I have played them all, with the exception of the online one, and other than some cryptic lookin symbols that pop up when you do a cool looking Summon (and thats what the symbols are for, to look cool, nothing more), I have NEVER seen anything in FF games that that mention ANY slamming of Christianity, or any other religion for that matter.

Some characters may have said God, or prayed to him for strength in the game, but thats it.  They are 100% wholesome entertainment.

I also believe that the stories in the games teach lessons in good ethics.

  4. nope! in fact, quite the opposite. the characaters in each FF story game has some sort of god they pray to. & also one of the strongest white magic powers they can learn is called holy (a couple of games changed that name to pearl but its the same thing) in FF6 (american's 3) you actually have an angelic being that heals your party...its called sraphim or something like that. misspeled seraphim (great...i mispelled it to lol) its cuz the old style games have character limits in names so they have to take out a few letters...for ie fenix instead of phoenix. in FFX & X-2 they have temples (though X-2 the temples are kind of outdated)...& there's a LOT of praying there. i have all the FF games...except that damned FF7! its SO hard to get! grrr ive been playing them since i was like 10 or something...now im 27.

now you do have evil in the games to. but its the evil that your characters fight. like in FFX..there's a very bad monster thats trying to destroy the world & you have to get rid of the beast at the end of the game. or in FF6 there's a really bad man, kefka, trying to control all empires of the world & is slowly but surely destorying the espers, (mystic beings from their world) draining their powers. that angel is one of these espers.

also, these beings that are summoned on for help in the games are like the angels: messangers. now there is bahamut, the king of dragons. so you can take that either way. symbolicaly in the bible a dragon is the devil...scientifically however, these things are just big fat lizards that p i s s e s people off...aka the komodo dragon in galapogos islands or that little dragon that runs fast on its back legs...its neck has a fan around it lol. so take it or leave it. getting these summon mystics are mostly optional & you can skip bahamut (& any other) in most games if you're that fussy but id say take him cuz he's usually got the most powerful stuff in the games lol & he's quite funny in FFX...he shows off & when he's done his work; stretches up tall & proud in a how-you-like-that-li'l-girl? kind of way lol (a young girl has power over him)

anyway, its much like the bible...same old good vs evil story. good will prevail..yada yada yada. so religiously speaking...id say the FF games are probalby the best ones for christians out there.

  5. I've played all of the Final Fantasy games, excluding 5. As a Christian, I can say that I have never seen anything that I felt was anti-Christian in any of the games.

Some of the games (like FFX) do, however, have made-up religions in them that some extreme believers may find to be blasphemous because involves a god other than God. But they do not purvey any anti-Christian message.

(Also, the phrase "God dammit" was never used in any game. "Dammit" has been used, but that's it.)

  6. it may look like at times because you may see a church or a temple, but there are no christianity with the final fantasy games.

  7. I am a Christian as well who loves the FF series and the only thing I could think of that may be bother some to some religious groups is that the games do use a lot magic, and summon monsters, usually from an under world, as in FFII (American).

There is also, profanity in a few of the games, such as FFVII and the want of some characters to become Gods (also, FFVII).

There are also some games that kind of have their own religion, and practices that (FFX) but there is nothing in any of them that is screams anti-christian. It is just that the primary religions in Japan are Buddhism and Shintō (for more info on these religions check out here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in...

and they just seem to draw from that.

But I think for the most part, they are just fun games and you should not have a problem.
