My son just started taking Concerta, and I would like to hear from parents of children who have taken this medication. Did it help? I would like to know the positive and also negative side effects that real people have experienced with this drug. Thanks for your time.

  1. my daughter takes it and it works great, but it effected my son bad so i guess it just depends on the child

  2. My son is also on concerta... 27 mg. he is comfortable there. He is doing great. At first he didn't have an appetite at all. He is doing much better with eating.

He was never hyper, just had a hard time focusing. he is now an honor roll student, has been for 2 years. The good thing is that he may be off of it soon. His doc. told me that this drug is actually helping him train his brain to focus and once that happens we can see how he does when he is off of it. I am crossing my fingers. I myself don't like that my son is on anything like that, i trust my sons doctor, she wouldn't recommend anything that may cause harm and keeping him at a safe dose not any higher. He has check ups every 3 mos. to see how he's doing. Which i believe should be done.

I do have to add... When I give him a break over the weekend...he eats like a horse. Also, he doesn't seem so tired or looks bored. I think you will be pleased.

  3. My son has been taking Concerta since November 2007. I have found that it has helped him a lot. He started with the lowest dose and then it was adjusted according to his need. He is up to 54mg and has been doing well.

    what are your concerns?

  4. i have a son on concerta and i love it for him.  my other son could not take it.  so it  effects children different ways.  my son who id on it now is like a totally different child then when he does not take it.  so yes i like it.
