Sport relief in the uk next week and we are being bombarded with semi-celebs walking a mile for charity how about some meaty donations instead? I know the idea is sound but i just don't know anyone who rings in to these things and donates!

  1. It depends on the charity.  I usually pledge money once a year to our public radio/TV station.  If it's a one-time event, and I'm moved to do so - like, I actually watch the fundraising event on TV - I'll do it.

I realise that you're in the UK - but, for example, after 9/11/01 here in the US, there was a 3-hour telethon where celebrities and musicians performed to raise money live on all national TV stations.  The total amount of money raised was over $100M, and I watched all 3 hours - and yes, I donated money.  Of course, I got to see/hear Johnny Reznick sing "Wish You Were Here," which will never happen again; I got to watch duets from singers that usually can't stand each other.

I've also worked for local ones and watched the money come in.  It's not fake - what would the point be?

So, no, they don't just make those numbers up.

  2. No... I get a little tired of being asked for money.
