  1. Say if it is a team sport the coaches are considered part of the team

  2. No, just the athletes do.

  3. The answer used to be a resounding "no" in the US, but that has all changed with the 2008 Summer Olympic Games!

From now on, the US Olympic Committee is awarding a new medal, known as the "Order of Ikkos" Medallion to coaches of athletes or teams that earn a medal in The Olympic Games.

This practice is long overdue, as it has been standard in many other countries to reward those men and women who often form the backbone of successful competitive programs. Some countries actually provide quite a large financial incentive to their coaches, who sometimes spend a lifetime and countless hours helping the athletes hone their skills and knowledge. For example, in the UK, coaches of swimmers who earn gold receive a 10,000 pound check, while silver nets 7,500, and bronze gets an even 5,000 (about $9,300 in today's market).

So, while US Olympic Coaches still don't receive golds, silvers, or bronzes on podiums in internationally televised presentations, the answer to your questions is finally "yes" - and it's the least we can do!
