Do any other moms use James Dobson's books as a reference in child rearing?

I find his books "Raising the Strong Willed Child" and "Dare to Discipline" very good reference books. I was curious to know if any other moms (or dads) used the same references?

  1. I thoroughly enjoy his books.  I am currently starting to read on "Dare to Discipline".  I find his books very helpful and insightful.  I don't believe he's a sick man in the least.  He has very good techniques and even supports rewarding good behavior with positive praise and sometimes rewards charts for certain things. He also supports positive reinforcement along with using consequences for misbehavior.  I think he's a wonderful author and his books are wonderful references.

  2. I don't like his books because they seem to be quite one-sided.  But this is just my personal opinion.  Every one has different parenting methods.  As long as someone's methods are beneficial and not harmful, they are doing right.  Good luck:) xxxxx

  3. Oh I love Dr. Dobsons Dare to Discipline and his other books. I do think he has a lot of great ideas. I knew what you were talking about when it comes to "raising" your children you are doing it on your own, but it is good to get ideas and advice from these books and expecially someone as nice as Dr. Dobson.

  4. James Dobson is great if you want to treat your child like an animal. He actually uses references to training kids the same way you train animals. He is a sick man and sadly many people do follow his books to a tee our of ignorance.

  5. I do not disagree with his advocacy of spanking.  That is the usual reason that his ideas become discounted.

In my case, I do not find him to offer many helpful ideas.  I feel that he has a political agenda and I cannot take him seriously.
