Do any other pale ladies look better in white than they do in ivory?

I am extremely pale and looking to purchase a bridal gown. Everyone tells me Oh you MUST get ivory or off white because you have such fair skin. But I find that I look better in white because I have a cool complexion. Any other pale brides sticking with pure white?

  1. I have pale skin and pale blonde hair (despite what my avatar looks like) and when I tried on a flat satin white dress it drained my colour completely. I look good in the ivory, but also found a 'crystal' white which is a shimmery white with an almost imperceptible tinge of blue in it that gives the white another dimension. That's the colour I'll be wearing, and it looks great on.

  2. Your cool coloring almost dictates a white dress; however, there are many different shades of white.  Women with warm skin tones look best in ivory.

  3. I'm also very fair-skinned, and I have always been dead-set on getting a pure white wedding dress. I've tried on several gowns, and I definitely like white better on me than ivory or other colors, just because that's what I've always had my heart set on. So go for it and get that white dress! I bet you look wonderful in it!

I don't understand why people have such a big problem with pale women wanting to get married in the white dress of their dreams.. I think pale skin looks fresh, clean, youthful, and healthy, especially when dressed in pure white.

And if there's such a big problem with pale girls wearing white dresses, why do the flower girls often wear white? They're usually fair girls, and you don't see brides sneaking them into tanning booths so they don't look "washed-out" in photos!   ;-P

  4. These days it is perfectly acceptable to bring pale colors into your gown.  You could have your bodice dyed - or buy a gown in a lovely pale color.

I would suggest pink for someone pale like you. Cool blues and greens generally blanch out an already pale woman.

In answer to your real question, yes, I think white is your better choice of the two.

Later:  Thumbs down? I was just trying to help.  Geez.

  5. I was like you - looked the best in white. In ivory, I look sallow.... white brightens up my face.

  6. You know what? I was dead-set on getting a true-white gown due to my coloring (very fair like you!). I tried on white gowns and the color was great. Then I tried on a champagne dress and it looked awesome. I then had to decide whether to order the dress in WHITE or stick with the champagne like I had tried on. In the end I chose the champagne because it was the color of the dress I fell in love with. According to the consultant she liked the champagne on me better than the white but I was in the same predicament! My opinion? Try on both colors and wait until you find "the dress". If it's "the dress" than the color will become secondary. I always though that ivory/champagne made me look washed out but apparently not... However, you should ultimately choose the color you are most comfortable in. If it's white, than it's white, the dress will tell you!!!

    Good luck!!!

  7. I ended up with pure white.  I was open to anything and after trying on a few different shades I knew white was the right color for me.

The off-white and ivory seemed to make me look yellow.
