Question:

Do any police officers here play the game "Grand Theft Auto"?

In Grand Theft Auto, committing lots of crimes means getting lots of police attention. You get wanted stars for crimes; one star gets you a pissed off cop, two stars gets you some trigger happy cops, three stars gets you an armed police helicopter, four stars gets you SWAT, five stars gets you FBI, six stars gets you National Guard.

So this is basically a pro-felon video game. How do REAL police officers feel about this game that basically demonizes and makes fun of cops in society? Do you know any cops that play it for fun? Would it be kinda like a US Marine playing a terrorist game where you blow up American troops?

  1. I play it and I'm a police detective. I know a lot of cops who play it. I play it online with other cops.

Many of us believe in adult personal responsibility. Do I think it's good for kids? No. Are there some adults who can't separate fiction from reality? You bet! The same goes for lots of stuff. I see alot of kids and adults sucked into the fake world of gangster hip hop, really trying to live up to an image created in a studio and perpetrated by guys and gals with an artistic background, rather than a criminal background.

I don't think the game is disrespectful per se, but I know it's just fantasy. It's the same as watching "Goodfellas" or "Reservoir Dogs"...just entertainment/art. The people that can responsibly enjoy these things should. The immature, unstable, and irresponsible should be baby sat I guess.

    Good parenting helps too.
