I'm tired of deciding whether my $700 set of irons are good for me by hitting into a net 10 feet out. Do any retailers have good demo programs?

  1. Golfsmith is about the best option.  Or you could buy them form an on-course shop, though most of them don't usually carry much selection.  That is one of the perks of belonging to a lot of private clubs.  They tend to have a bigger selection than other on-course shops.  You might try calling some private clubs in your area, most of them will sell to non-members and they have outdorr ranges so you can sctually hit the club.

Other than that, or if you have friends that have something you want to try, you are kind of SOL.  It sucks and most golfers are in the same boat as you.  But there really aren't a lot of options.

Oh ya, I totally forgot.  Have you hit balls indoors with a launch monitor?  You are still hitting balls into a net, but the montior will tell you exactly how far the shot went, how far left or right, the height, launch angle, spin, etc.  That is actually better than demoing clubs at an outdoor range because you can try different stuff until you get the numbers as close to perfect as possible.

Call around to golf shops, any one worth going to should have a launch monitor and should fit you for clubs for free if you buy them from them.

  2. Golfsmith has a great program called the 90/90 Playability Guarantee

Buy your clubs with confidence! If for any reason you aren’t satisfied with your club purchase, return your clubs to Golfsmith within 90 days and receive credit for up to 90% of the original purchase price toward another club purchase.
