Question:

Do any species of birds ever hibernate?

  2. First thing is that this term hibernate is a general term, in science, the term is usually accompanied by an explanation of the type of hibernation the animal experiences.  Hibernating bears, if and when and depending on the species, have a different sort of hibernation that chipmunks.

    Birds by nature will leave an area when it's habitat become adverse to its existence.  However, the common poorwill will enter periods of torpor, which last several weeks.  Not truly hibernation.  I say there are not any true avian hibernators.

  4. In addition to poorwills, hummingbirds also go into a torpor state each night when they sleep.
