Question:

Do apartment buildings in the Caribbean have thicker floors and walls?

I'm from NYC and I've lived in apartments my whole life so I know how annoying it is when people upstairs make a lot of noise and little kids run around like crazy. Or sometimes it's people next door playing music too loud. If you're from NY you know what I'm talking about. LOL...So anyway my mom and dad are returning to the Dominican Republic and they want to buy an apartment in an upscale neighborhood in the capital. I was wondering...since it's the Caribbean and because of all the hurricanes...Do they use a lot more cement?..Are the floors thicker? Are they so thick that people upstairs can run and jump and you wouldn't feel a thing?

It's this new 40 story building that was just finished last month.

  1. Usually in the caribbean most walls & floors are thick cement, so the noise will be reduced. In most apt buildings they are the same, however that is a really big building & I know the outer walls are cement but that does not mean 100% that the inner walls will be. They should be, but not 100%. But they should be becuase sheet rock & drywall get moldy very easy in the tropical  islands. They can use green board, but most likely they wont & will use cement.

  2. WOW, that is a beautiful building. My only fear is I wouldn't want to be on that top floor during a category 3 or 4 hurricane.

It looks solid and I'm sure  the noise level is not going to be an issue.

Excellent and congrats to the parents)
