Question:

Do apt check income proof?

I am college student seeking for housing. What me and my roommate have trouble with is showing proof in income. Because we have to show that we make 2.5 x rent's income. Rent = 2075, meaning we have to provide proof of $5200/month income. 3 of us have financial aid, but the other 2 do not and they get pay under the table which is impossible to show their income. We planned to photoshop one of our financial aid statement for both of them. How likely these apt people check these income or do they just glance at it during t he leasing day?

  1. Don't do it.  It's not worth the risk of gaining the distinction of "financial fraud" on a police record.

Talk to the apartment manager to see if you can offer signed affidavits from the employers in question stating that your roommates actually do receive the income stated on the apartment application.

Just in case.  Know what I mean?

  2. Make some check stubs its that simple.  Create your own job verification.  Nah just kidn.  Look for a cheaper place.

  3. They check. Ask them if one of your parents can cosign. That's what I did. Paid all my bills from financial aid & jobs, but mom cosigned so I could get the apartment without enough income.

  4. there is achance of them checking it so i would not chance faking it. ask if one of your parent's will co sign on the lease for the kid's getting paid under the table.

  5. More than likely they will want that, they need proof that you will be able to pay that rent. And they will probably call so the photoshop does noy sound like a good idea to me but if you feel right then go for it!

  6. They WILL check employers to make sure that you are working there, and will check the student aid office to make sure the aid is there.

If you forge the docs, the landlord can evict you.
