Do architects hire non-licensed drafters and designers for work behind the scenes?

  1. Yes. The firms are sometimes known as "Name and associates"


  2. Yes they do...I was what they called a "Consultant" ..... I recommend you at least have some experiance if your going to work behind the scenes.

I do it all the time.  You're up against a tremendous amount of competition though.  Most architects are weary of bringing someone new to do their drafting.  It has to do with familiarity of projects, layout and setup.  Plus, drafting services are popping up in Eastern Europe, China, Mexico and India and they charge ten cents to the dollar.

    By the way, there is no such thing as a licensed drafter and designer.  In California, it is illegal to call yourself "licensed" since it implies that drafting is regulated by the State.
