Do area area codes matter when you get directed to the closest 911?

Question

I lived in New Jersey for a ten years, and then moved to Texas. But my cell phone still has the New Jersey area code.

So if I ever need to, and I call 911, will it direct me to the nearest police in Texas, or the one in New Jersey because of my area code?

as you can tell, this is a very serious question. Don't just guess!! Only tell me if you actually KNOW.

i had to call 911 once while on the highway.  accident happen in the adjoining county, when i called 911 it when to my county dispatcher.

you need to call your local police station regular call in number to make sure.  every station has a regular telephone number, don't dial 911.

911 is based on the cell tower you make the call from.  You may end up getting a county dispatch instead of a city dispatch or vice versa but they will redirect your call to the correct person.  So to answer the question, no, area codes don't matter.

Yes I live in the 559 but my cell phone is 831 so if I call 911 from my cell phone I will be directed to the Highway Patrol nearest to Salinas instead of Clovis/Fresno

I had to use it to call 911 at one time and the Highway Patrol Dispatcher had to transfer me to my nearest Highway Patrol Office. In California it goes through the Highway Patrol

It goes through the nearest cell tower. I know this because in California, most 911 calls from cell phones are routed to the CHP, no matter where your phone is from. However, in some cities (like San Jose) 911 calls are routed to the city police department, if you are in the city limits.

So if you call 911 in Texas, you will be directed to a local department, not to New Jersey. However, it may be the city, the county, or the state, so if you have time, you should look up the emergency numbers for your area and put them in your phone. In California, a 911 call to the CHP takes about 10 minutes or more to get through, and they still would have to connect you to a local department if it's not a highway emergency.

honey you don't need are code for 911 its in every state in u.s. its in emergency # they made it easy even my 4 year old soon knows that.

911 from a cell phone is routed based on location, not on your phone number.  Some areas route all cellular 911 calls to their state police, most do not.  So if you call 911 from your cell phone it will go to the nearest 911 center.
