  1. I would imagine they would have to travel to fires on oil reserves and other places off base. You may have to shift between bases. I wouldn't count on being at one base and never leaving

I have not seen 1 Active Duty fire fighter in Iraq.  They are all civilian contractors.  Getting a job as an Active Duty fire fighter is rather hard from what I'm told.  But if they were in Iraq, no, they would not leave the base.  It is a bit too dangerous for us to fight fires.  Iraq has their own emergency services.

  3. this is why there is no demand for firefighters in the ARMY anymore, I am assuming you haven't signed yet right, If not then start looking at another MOS because your chances of getting that one are 0, the recruiter will say it's possible, just to get you into meps where they will try and talk you into another one, you've been warned.
