Do artificial nail tips ruin your nails that badly?

i've been wanting to get them but my mom keeps telling me it destroys your nail cause of the glue they put on.

any advice?

YES!!!

i had acrylic nails at one time and they're TERRIBLE for you... when you get the nails taken off your nails are really thin and rip and break ALL the time! you have to let your nails Fully grow back before they look normal...

They really are not very good for your nails.  I've tried every kind - acrylic, gel, silk wraps.  They all weaken the nail underneath.  In addition to that, it is costly to maintain.   I would really try to keep my real nails nicely manicured.  Odds are really good that if you do, they will grow and look great when polished.

don't do them! they will ruin your nails! just get some great clear nail polish that will help your nails grow, and once they get to a great length spend the money and have them professionally french tipped and silk wrapped :D

Yeah they do. And they have to buff your nails too, so when you take them off your nails are so thin and brittle.

The manicurist buffs the top of your nail until it's rough and thin so the glue for the fake tips will adhere. Once the fake nails are on, they look perfect....however when you get them removed your nails look like a rabid dog attacked them!

I got my nails continously french "tipped" for about six months until the manicurist went to buff my pinky nail and I bled. The nail had gotten so thin that she punctured it by accident. I took the salon's suggestion and let my nails grow back naturally and have been afraid to do fake tips again...
