Do astronaut pilots ever go on spacewalks, or the mission specialists do that?

wouldn't it be kinda silly to take the chance of something happening to the guy who has to get you home?... I would want my pilot to stay INSIDE the ship!!.....

Historically the earliest astronauts were all pilots and the first spacewalks were done by them.

In recent years spacewalks have been very specialized, so most if not all of them have been done by mission specialists.

I don't know of any instances when shuttle pilots have done spacewalks.
