Do atheists use American money?

Just wondering since it says in God we trust. Or do they demand food and goodwill clothes to avoid the money. I read its a atheist sin to touch it too.

  1. I use it. It just proves to me that Christianity is mostly about the money.

  2. Don't believe everything you read.  (like bibles)

  3. No, least year we got it legal for us to use Monopoly money.

Needless to say, we are all very rich, but have a h**l of a lot of unused game boards.

Really though, I use my debit card so much anymore, it's rare I even have cash with me. And the card doesn't say it, so my hands don't burn.

(See what Drasago said? Told you, Monopoly money.)

  4. Yes, we do use American money (at least, those of us that are Americans do) because we, like everyone else, need to work and pay bills and put food on the table.

We don't have any aversion to money, and there are no atheist sins. There aren't any atheist virtues, either... we're not a collected group, we're just the people who aren't in the group called theists.

I don't care what's written on the money as long as I get paid for my day's work and it's valid at the bank. I realize that "In God We Trust" has been the nation's motto since the 1950s and as such may be written on currency... it could say something completely vulgar or nonsensical and I'd still use the money.

Seriously, I don't think there is anyone who is so petty that they would abandon the use of currency just because they don't care for some of the words on it.

  5. well, im not athiest but im buddhist.

when we stand for the pledge i stand but i dont put my hand over my heart bc it says "one Nation, under God, indivisible.." .

  6. I'm not afraid of the money, or God. I can touch it. I can walk into and out of a church. I could sit and listen to a sermon, I can  say the pledge of allegiance, and still remain an uncompromised atheist.

  7. No...I print my own money.  You can do that.  See what you don't know is all us atheists have a secret underground culture...fully established and functional with our own system of government freedom justice and commerce.  Also...we own the gap...and abercrombie...so whenever you buy from there...we get your money and trade exchange it for monopoly money which actually has more power on the international market than your american dollar.

  8. You are mistaken.  Some atheists cross out that sentence on their cash.  Other atheists couldn't care less.  Most atheists use credit cards or checks too.

  9. "I read its a atheist sin to touch it too"

I'd love to know where you got that one from.

Atheists do NOT believe in any breed of invisible sky critter - that's it.

I doubt very much any atheists believe in the concept of 'sin' cos it's a xian word.

I heard that in the 50s there was such FEAR of the Russians invading that someone suggested that y'all print "In God we Trust" on ALL the money cos it was believed that Communists wouldn't touch anything with 'god' on it.

I don't know that such ignorance has ever been surpassed.

You'll have to realise that atheists are NOT generally superstitious - we leave that to frightened invisible-sky-critter and bogeymen-under-the-bed believing theists.

So, now USians are the only country with a bumper sticker slogan on their money.

We, in the rest of the world, find that extremely amusing.

Oh, thank YOU ! for the comedy.

  10. you make me want to drown kittens.

  11. The definition of atheism is just "disbelief in gods."  That's it, no beliefs come with it, no commandments com with it, and of course no sins come with it.  Many people who uphold the constitution, atheist included, find it wholly inappropriate to have any reference to religion on our legal tender, but it isn't going to burn our skin or anything.

And plastic is taking over anyway.

  12. lololololol

  13. You should just stop talking, you're making theists look bad.

  14. I saw a YouTube video once of a girl encouraging other people to cut the word God out lol I wonder if she got arrested since that is technically defacing Government property.

  15. I'm not an atheist, but I find this question a little... mindless.

There are lots of pagan symbols on the back of a dollar bill, it doesn't stop Christians from using the dollar bill to buy what they need.  The Christian can look at those symbols, and know that they mean nothing to the Christian because the Christian doesn't believe in what they symbolize.

I would imagine that an atheist would look at the phrase, "In God We Trust" the same way.

  16. I've never considered myself as a Kool-Aid swilling member of "We". I have no problem using any currency, unless it's worthless. "We" includes people I wouldn't trust in my home. Why would I place my trust in their trust? There are some great members of "We" but also a vast number of untrustworthy morons. I've always considered "We" as "Them" not "Me". When I get monthly personal holdings statements from banks and investment firms it's numbers, nowhere is God or Tinkerbell mentioned. Personally, I've always felt that currency would make an ideal medium for advertising. God's hustled enough, IMO, how about giving Satan a fighting chance? This is 'Merka for crying out loud!

  17. Duh Yup. Sure do, It is getting harder to get change for a chicken at the grocery store.

  18. Yes.  "In God We Trust" is offensive, but there isn't any alternative.

  19. I use white out or black marker to cover up the "In God we trust part".  It doesn't stop people from accepting the money, except at Christian book stores, where I buy books just to burn them out front and get attention so I can publicly advocate atheism.

  20. you aren't a theists? wow, you sound really smart. Is there such a thing as an atheist sin?

  21. They use everything in the name of Atheism that has some mention about God for their personal pleasure but say no to ........

  22. oh shut up! And you realise is says in God we trust coz A christian shot the prez and said. Now it's my turn to call the shots

  23. Well I guess they would struggle to live if they didn't use money. I've personally never heard this before.

  24. That's kinda mean of you to say such things. It'd be like a Christian not eating out at a Chinese food restaurant because they might have a statue of Buddha in there. I just hope that not all atheists think that Christians act like this...

  25. Americans are classic hypocrites.

They write "In God we trust" on their money.

What they mean is "In money we trust."

  26. I also heard they burst into flames if they step on "Holy" ground.

  27. Sorry, "in God we trust" was not on American money until the Civil War.

The US was founded as a secular nation and only later religionized.

  28. IGNORANCE> also we dont have sins. we are NOT a religion. no one says dont sin. How bout next time you look it up instead of making a fool of yourself. It will work out better for all of us.

  29. Huh? I'm wondering if your question is serious, if so it's very condescending. I don't know what you've been "reading" but throw it in the trash and set it on fire.

  30. You are ridiculous.

    Really.

    Really...

    Realllly....

    Ridiculous.

And what may I ask, is an atheiest sin? Athiests don't live life fearing that some magical diety is going to punish us. We don't have sin. =D

P.S. Grow up and stop believing lies from some ancient story book.

  31. Curiously, they don't even confirm that I indeed do trust in God at the register.

I get so nervous though every time I'm in line for checkout, but I just try to play it cool.
