  1. Yep.  One of the problems of skiing is balancing getting too cold sitting on chair lifts and getting too hot skiing.  This applies particularly in Australia (where I come from and ski) because our resorts are relatively warm and also windy.  You develop strategies like controlling heat by zipping and unzipping to compensate, but after a hard run you are often sweating.

XC is quite hard aerobic exercise, and they often sweat.  This can be quite dangerous if your clothes stay damp after you stop which is why wicking and breathable fabrics are important, and cotton is a definite no no.

  2. yep. you sweat just as much as any other sport. that's why you try to wear as little clothing as needed. And never cotton.

  3. Athletes sweat from exertion in any enviornment, regardless of the outside temperature.  It's because your body is heating up internally and sweating is a natural response to regain homeostasis.  Skiing (or XC or snowboarding) is particularily bad because sweating in the tight-fitting boots makes the toes get colder faster.

  4. Yes, plus the cold is much dryer so you also will respirate a lot of water.

  5. You can lose hydration in a winter sport game. When you sweat if you notice when you ski, snowboard etc., you'll feel warm areas on your body because you were perspiring.

  6. Yes!

I have done various excersize in cold cold snow and winter weather (military) and have come back drenched in sweat !
