Question:

Do attractive students receive the most attention from teacher?

When I was in school I always noticed that the so- called "attractive popular people" always got the most attention from teachers. I just felt teachers were always willing to converse with them more than other students.

Even though, there would be a quiet & more knowledable student within the room, the teacher would talk less with him/her.

Now, I do realize this is not the case with every teacher, because I did have those teachers who did not care as long as people did their work, and were not disruptive, they loved them.

Yet, i seem to think attractive or (outspoken) students get a more friendly vibe the teacher.

Do any of you notice these situations happening?

  1. Oh yess I see that at my school.

  2. attractive people get more attention in ANY situation.

  3. Yes, this really happens. You can refer to my life incidence.

I study in 1st year. You may call it 11th standard.

I have a close friend of mine, he is very close to me. He is extraordinarly attractive and good looking. My english, urdu, math, chemistry and physics prof, all love him and care him, this may be cos he is intelligent, but I am a kind of his equal. Sometimes, I stand higher in some results. Once, we were punished as we didn't prepare test. We both (together) apologized our professor for carelessness, next day, when he came to class, he appreciated him infront of the whole class as to accept your mistake is equal to not commiting it & he didn't even took my name. He further added that he wanted to kiss him and felt sorry for punishing such a bright student.

I still care my friend and he is close to me but the image of my professor hasnot remained the same.

  4. I think you answered your own question.  Students that are more outspoken or "visible" tend to get more attention.  Perhap a person with a more positive self image (who may be "attractive") get more attention because of this too.

  5. Just a thought...

Attractive people are usually more confident and may put themselves  out there more to interact with teacher.  The teacher is usually more attracted to those who want to interact with him or her.

  6. Not necessarily....I find that people who actually try to make conversation with teachers end up talking more, not those who are attractive. Most attractive students don not even want to associate with teachers in my school, so it doesn't really happen.

  7. I've seen this before, too, especially in highschool by male teachers.  I don't think it's always the case.  In my classroom I make it a point to do things like draw sticks to answer questions or do certain things.  That way I'm not partial to anyone whether I mean to or not.

I also think a lot of this stems from the fact that the 'attractive kids' have more confidence and make themselves heard more.  It's easier for teachers to connect to these students because they make it easier to get to know them.  You're right, it's a shame that this happens so often.  I was always the quieter one who went unnoticed!

  8. sfroggy nailed it.  I talk more to the students who talk to me.  These aren't always the good looking or popular kids, but they aren't the shy kids either.  If you want your teachers to talk to you more, be more outgoing.

  9. studies have shown this is true, and also that male teachers give female students more attention and female teachers give male students more attention.

People are just subconsiously nicer to good looking people, its not intentional. And also, if someone is more outspoken, wouldn't you want to naturally talk to them more than you would someone who is shy and has little to say?

  10. You may perceive them as attractive, but as a teacher I talk to them because they are more outgoing and they talk to me.  There are many students that wouldn't be considered popular but they are outgoing and I talk to them just as much.  I talk to the shy kids too, but they look at me like why are talking to me and try to get away.  I think you just notice the attention the popular kids are getting because you are paying more attention to them.

  11. it's only coincidence that teacher's attention is observed on the attractive students...

teacher appreciates and loves every student she/he  have though most of the time students often not notice it...

there are also students who shows much love and appreciation to their teacher the reason why extra attention was given back to them...

it's only a matter of receiving what you give...and giving back what you received...
