I'm doing an assignment about autism and i was just wondering if autistic kids have difficulty remembering things.

For example is it easy for autistic children to read music on a staff?

  1. My son is very low functioning, and non verbal, but he has an excellent memmory. Some autistics think in pictures.Temple Grandin for example.

  2. Autistic children have amazing memories. Their brains have something like a play-back mode and something like a movie goes on in their heads and recounts every little detail of every little thing that happened.

  3. Some autistic people, known as autiste-savant, have special memory skills, like in Rainman but many don't.  Some may have special abilities that makes reading music on a staff easier, but for the majority it will be no easier than for anyone else.

  4. some don't forget a thing---some have average memories-some have to have simple things drilled over and over again

  5. It depends on the child.  The spectrum is so large as far as symptoms and abilities.  However, my son who is autistic has an incredible memory.  It amazes me at times.  Again it varies, but a lot of autistic kids are also very visual which may also affect their ability to read music.

  6. It depends on the child.  Every autistic person is at a different degree mentally.  Some autistic individuals can remember things that happened 30 years ago, but not 30mins ago.  For some, it's the other way around.

It's completely dependent on the individual.

  7. Autism is on a very wide spectrum so everyone who has autism is very different. Some children can't even remember how to dress themselves in the mornings but can do the most difficult maths equations. Others struggle with all aspects of daily life and remembering things.
