Question:

Do babies need to start off in a crib or is it okay to go straight to a cot?

Everyone keeps suggesting a moses basket or crib to me but I was just going to buy a cot. Is there a medical reason why I might be wrong to do this. I know it might sound a bit stupid but I just wonder. Thanks for the help in advance folks.

  1. Its absolutely fine to put your newborn straight into a cot as long as you put them to sleep on their back with their feet at the bottom of the cot so they can't wriggle down under the covers.

  2. Putting baby straight into cot is fine.

  3. I dont hink there's a medical reason but i think they dont like too much space when the are newborns. Just make sure you put him so his feet can touch the bottom of the cot and if he is restless there are some side supports you can buy from any baby shop that make them feel safe.

I kept my little boy in his pram for the first couple of months, it was ideal

and saved me buying a crib.

P.S. i think that Americans have a different word for cot. I think Cot in American is a single bed.

  4. its good to have them start out in crib so they feel secure.

    laterrr use the cot thing

  5. A drawer & a blanket will suffice just as well

  6. A cot?  Is your baby in prison?

Well, for one thing, cribs are designed to be SAFE for baby so that they don't fall out / hit their head / choke on anything / etc.

Please don't just toss your baby on a cot like he is sleeping one off in a county drunk tank.

  7. you can but a mosses backet for the first couple of months then move him into a cot your baby its up2 you xxxx

  8. No there is no medical reason, its just down to preference. But if you are putting her/him in the cot, make sure you put her/him at the bottom of the cot to make sure he/she doesn't wriggle down under the covers.

  9. There is no medical reason, it's just because they like the security of a small place. They have been in a whomb for 9 months so big open area's are kinda scary to them for the first few months. Once they get use to everything they aren't so bad.

  10. Cots are fine they have high sides to, so for the numpty that thinks its unsafe might want to research what cots actually are
