Do baby girls really develope faster than baby boys?

My son just turned seven months old. He can roll over both ways and he can sit all day long when placed in the sitting position but can't get himself there yet. He can also push up all the way on his arms but hasn't figured out how to get up on all fours yet.

My friend has a daughter who was crawling at four months, sitting up by six months on her own and walking at 10 months. She told me that girls just develope faster than boys.

I know all babies develope at the their own pace but I was wondering what your experience was with hitting milestones with girls vs boys.

Thanks! Just curious!

  1. my pediatrician said most girls do develop faster. when they get around 3 years they average is about 6 months faster then boys. eventually boys do catch up though. how ever, your friends baby developed faster then most babies i've ever seen too. (if what she said was true) i wouldn't worry though. your son sounds right on track.

  2. I THINK ITS JUST THE OPPOSITE

  3. I've always heard that girls develop faster than boys throughout their whole life! Physically and maturity wise. I don't know how true all of it is, but your friend's baby sounds extremely early even for a girl. My daughter was sitting up by herself at 4 months, crawling at almost 8 months, and just started walking now at 11 months.

  4. My daughter was a very slow developer compared to my son... she didn't roll till 6 months and didn't crawl till 12 months and didn't walk till 18 months... but my son rolled at 2 months and at 5 months uses this rolling to get around... he can also sit for about 1/2 an hour at a time... but i think this is due to having an older sibling!!! but yes every child is different!!!

  5. So true all babes go thru different things at different times. I found my first girl was a little slower at starting things but when she finally did them she got it straight away. How knows tho. Its up to the bub

  6. In my experience ... girls do develop quicker than boys :-) ... my son Koty was lazy, lol. He didn't sit up on his own til 7.5 months ... didn't crawl til almost 9 months ... and didn't walk til 13 months ...

Both my girls were 5 months and crawling as well as sitting up unsupported. My second child Hailee was walking at 7 months ... and my littlest one Julie is only 5.5 months now ... but Im sure she will walk early too :-)

  7. No they don't develop faster, they do however develop DIFFERENTLY.

in VERY GENERAL terms, boys develop their spacial awareness, logic, problem solving, physical control and memory skills faster then girls.

and girls develop language, social skills, and physical movement faster then boys.

that is VERY GENERAL so please, don't worry about your darling child. He is 7mths old and right on track with his physical development. He is developing well, and likely learning all about how to control, aim and strengthen his movements before he "takes off" so to speak.
