barcodes are only used to check prices right?

or can they trigger alarms ?

I ask because I walked out of a store with a barcode sticker on me and the alarm didn't go off.

  1. barcodes won't set off alarms but the metal strips under them will like everyone has said above. If i were you just make sure you take off the barcodes if its on a sticker because you never know if there is one or not. I tried to take a mascara the other day and if i hadn't peeling back the barcode a bit the alarms would of gone off and i would of been screwed - just a word of advice :)

  2. NO!!!!

  3. of coarse not!!!! barcodes are designed to be programmed as infomation link tags. when you scan a barcode, it sends that barcode image to the database. it scans through the whole system untill it finds a match. when it does, it sends the data back and all the infomation stored in the data base will show on screen. the security systems (the alarms at the doors) can not read ink!!!!!! barcodes are just ink. in rare casses, the barcode is linked to a security tag. this is a way to hide the alarm tags. under the barcode. as said earlier, the main type of security tag is 2 metal strips that are magnetic that need a magnetic current to either repel or attract the strips. im not sure whitch 1 it is but the 1 that it is not, can be picked up by the security alarms.

long story short, no, barcode's DO NOT set the alarms of!!!!!

    yet!!!!!!!
