  1. just slip your thumb in their mouth and lift them with the lower jaw, no problem. i locate bass with a spinner bait then settle down into a plastic worm, lizard, brush hog presentation. the Texas rig is very efficient and i am a big fan of the Carolina rig for plastic baits also. different baits for different conditions, water depth, clarity, weather, natural bait. check with the local baitshop at a lake you want to fish. most fishermen will pass on some reliable information so you dont have to start from scratch. one lake i fish in Louisiana the bass almost exclusively bite an 11 inch worm in a red shad or tequila green flake? ( Texas rigged) good luck and remember a bad day of fishing beats a good day at work.lol. max.

  2. Bass will close their mouths on your thumbs but not having teeth of any kind it will not hurt in the least......

  3. Way to go drunken Canadian. You didn't answer the question!!

So long as you grip them right you will be fine.In their mouth, the part you have your thumb touching will feel like rough sandpaper. It won't hurt though. If it's a larger bass make sure you use two hands to pick it up.Bass also have a thick, tough jaw,so getting a hook out is a little bit different than on your standard fish. Not that it causes a problem, just thought you'd like to know.

  4. like everyone else said, put your thumb in the mouth.  if the bass does close its mouth in will not hurt.  the only way you can really get hurt, is if the bass shakes.  with the sandpaper texture in the mouth, your thumb might get a little scratched up.  if it is a large bass, hold it with both thumbs, and get someone else to take the lure out.  as mentioned by john, don't hold a fish in the vertical position for too long.  they are not meant to be that way, that's why they swim horizontal.  if it is a larger bass, try not to hold the bass vertical at all.  with the heavier fish held vertical, the organs will put pressure on other organs.  you can do a quick vertical photo, but then hold it horizontal.  i have seen a fish die because it was held for too long.

    to sum up your question:

    1. the bass biting will not hurt

    2. if the bass shakes, it might hurt.

if would be taking a piece of sandpaper, and hitting your arm a couple if times with the rough side

  5. "Bite" No, more like close there mouth to breathe, but if you grab there mouth right they cant,if you grab so your thumbs inside the mouth and your pointer fingers like pushing aginst the flab under its lip, they really can bite you. Lure, Rat L Traps, Hula Poppers, Bill Dance Dancing eel, Soft plastic like Zoom Flukes Super Flukes, Bass Tubes,Crank baits,I still like the Soft plastics Best. Culprit Worms are great and not too much, Topwaters Look cool when bass hit them. Just buy a few things and try them out,Im telling you now,you GET what you PAY for.

    Happyfishing,

    Katie.

  6. Been a drunken Canadian bassmaster for close to 30 years now and I always loved the 'Ripplin' Redfin' lure for small and largemouths. You'll find them anywhere, although they might be knockoffs of a different name. All my fishing buddies switched to soft plastics years ago and swear by them and really seem to work well too, I just never really had a reason to switch from the redfin, too successful with it.

  7. Hold the fish like this and his body weight will paralyze him and he wont move or even close his mouth. The other is a link to some common bass lures.
