Question:

Do bats eat fleas? Is there any animal that does?

I have a flea problem in the yard and was wondering if bats or any other animal helps control them?

Either way, I want more bats and less fleas. Any suggestions?

I've sprayed chemicals to kill the fleas but it does not work well. I hate doing that because I'm worried that it will harm the bats if they eat any insects that have touched the chemicals. Is this theory true?

  1. Bats (and other animals) only eat fleas to get rid of them  off their own bodies, not as a  hunted food!

Consider where the fleas came from though. It might be BAT fleas, from the bats you already have.

This is an agricultural extension site, all about your lovely pets the FLEAS. It goes into a lot of detail how to kill them in different situations. Sunny hot lawns are recommended ! but  you have to work with what you have.

There is a very useful list of products for different purposes, near the end of the page.

They also recommend traps and some more natural ways of getting rid of them. There don't appear to be a lot of predators, but some are sold for flea control purposes. They may or may not suit your yard.

Briefly, the poisons  are mostly insecticides, which only harm insects. Bats are mammals so have different physiologies, and are not affected. The best way to attract bats is with fruit trees (but don't expect them to leave many fruit for you).

  2. Bats do not eat fleas, they eat flying insects. Everything has a predator. A flea's predators are likely to be smaller mites that parasitize the flea.

  3. The chemical is bad for any animal who comes in contact with it. I don't know if bats eat them or not but any animal who comes in contact with your yard can get severely sick! It might even result in death.

  4. Well Monkeys do such as the Chimpanzee

  5. Fleas do have some natural preditors. The Nematode for instance, prays on Fleas. Spiders and ants also pray on fleas.

  6. I doubt any animal would eat fleas. Fleas can carry disease or worms.

Eating a flea that has worms can lead to blindness.
