Do batteries explode in fire?

Just wondering if either things like 9volt, AA batteries, or those mini batteries in watches explode in a fire.

  2. Yes, they contain magnesium (use in armor-piercing ammo to burn thru metal), carbide (used in gun powder as propellant), nitrate, carbon & other chemicals.
