  1. Of course!  great source of quick energy, and it taste good too.

  2. Yes, they will break into a hollow tree to get at a bees' nest to steal the honey.

The Russian word for bear "medved" means "honey-eater".

  3. YES bears like honey

  4. Bears LOVE honey!  Bears love honey so much they will endure numerous stings on their noses, lips, tongues and eyelids to indulge themselves in it, and "in it" is the operant term because a bear raiding a bee hive often seems to be more about wearing honey than eating it.  When all you have is your tongue and paws full of spikes, there is no way you are going to be even remotely neat about it, and bears don't try to be neat about anything.

Just about the time you think the bear couldn't get any gooier if it tried, they'll probably decide it's time for a roll in the duff, and then they're really a mess.  It concerns them not that their honey is more dirt than honey, and by the time they are full, their carbohydrate rush will have passed, and they are likely to crash where they are.

I once watched a bear tear into a hive in an old tree trunk in Yosemite, and when it finished it went to the river, not for a bath but for a drink.  It then lumbered back into the woods, having cleaned only it's lips.  It was a mess!
