I'd say smashing is the best part of my badminton game but if I worked on my arm muscles would my smash improve in anyway or is just more about timing then big arm muscles?

  1. i'd say it was more stamina and timing rather than muscles

  2. i dont think its muscles cos im quite muscley but have an awful smash!

mayb timeing or direction of thrust something like that?

  3. work on figure eights with your wrists while holding your racket. the wrist action is what helps with the smash.

  4. I would say it’s mostly timing and 10% muscle, the Olympic badminton plays are not the most strong guys around but they don’t half smash fast. It’s all to do with timing as the shuttle c**k dips just below your racket at full strength you bring your racket down as fast as possible. Hope this answers your question.

  5. It's all in the wrist.  The smash action in badminton is akin to a whip.  I was a tennis player that like to play badminton.  I can hit very hard in tennis, but my badminton sucks because we don't use the wrist in tennis.

  6. You don't need big muscles. Just strong muscles that can work for a long duration. I've never seen a badminton player with an impressive muscular body.

  7. The most important is the timing. There are many bodybuilders who can't smash strong.

To improve the smash, of course you can train your wrist muscles(not arm muscles)

Also stamina is important, when my opponents are tired, I can retrieve their smash easier, I guess the speed slows when the players are tired.

  8. For games such as badminton, where a featherweight shuttle-c**k is used, big arm muscles are a hindrance rather than a benefit.

    Why?

Badminton champs are lightweight folk, quick on their feet, like dancers and have a low body fat level.  Similar type to cyclists etc.

    Same applies to ping-pong players.

Why are the Chinese tops in both badminton and ping-pong?

They are slender lightweight folk who can move at high speed.

Big muscles are for lifting, weights, javelin, discus etc.
