  1. Yes I understand what you mean straight forward question.

Large dog breeds are at less of a risk of being dog napped as they can be found slightly more intimidating also for the most obvious reason you stated they're they're too big to lift out of someones yard.

  2. Big breed dogs are stolen quite regularly in this country, along with all other types of dogs.  No one literally "runs off with them" but they are taken away in cars and trucks.  The dogs are sold to research laboratories.  Often, the labs put the word out that they are looking for a certain type or breed of dog and are willing to pay extra for those dogs.  Dogs left alone in yards that fit the wanted breed description will then disappear, leaving behind only an open gate and a tragic mystery.

  3. yes, my basset hound will be big,ad people steal big dogs like that coz they have no problems with strangers, but dogs that a natural guards for their own territory have ho problem unless someone uts something in their meal and then take them unconius

  4. yeah they can just put a leash on them and walk away with them.

  5. no, but that doesnt stop them from calmly walking away with them.

a friend of ours had their pure bred rottweiler stolen, right out of their fully fenced locked front yard.

  6. Yes, they do.  I have heard many stories of pits, boxers, labs, etc. being "dog-napped."  If the dog is friendly, and willing to go along with someone that acts friendly to it.... isn't that possible??

  7. Pits are often stolen in our town, I've heard of blue noses stolen at gun point and loaded the dog into the car, often they end up in dog fights or as bait. I know of one guy who was smart enough to try to grab a neighborhood stray pit, turned out it was a a member of a street pack, he got mauled by 5 dogs and the dogs turned guarded what was left of him not allowing rescuers in to help him.

  8. You'd be surprised. some people steal them by hooking them to a leash or something, then walking off with them like they belong to them. Who'd be able to tell right?

  9. Yes I know of incidents where people climbed over a 6 ft fence and tried to lift the adult malamute out of the garden (in daylight)

Last week a Malamute puppy was stolen (lifted over a fence) in the afternoon (daylight).

These animals are expensive and therefor interesting for bad bad people.

  10. Of course they have to worry about being stolen, if not more than small dogs, as im sorry to say it, but most people snatch big dogs, to fight them, i mean have you ever seen a sign thats said-'missing chihuhua'-i dont think so, all the mssing adverts ive seen is for staff's, or big breed strong dogs, and by the way, people who snatch dogs, mostly will put a muzzle on the dog, and drag it out if its big, so big dogs are in danger more than any little dog.

    hope i helped.

  11. Full grown humans get kidnapped, big screen tvs are stolen, and cars are jacked. You really think a large breed dog is a problem?

People can pretty much steal anything. You'd be suprised. Someone actually stole my trampoline back in the day! I'm not sure anyone would mess with a german shepherd but a malamute will more than happy leave with a stranger who has yummy treats.

  12. If the dog is friendly, and someone wants it, it is hard to not have it taken. They don't always snatch and run, the animal will follow, or be taken in a vehicle. It's not like a big struggle.

  13. I live in the midwest and I read an article a few years ago that fully 30% of the dogs that are stolen, are stolen to be sold to labs...

Larger healthy dogs are more desireable to labs than smaller breeds...

My dogs are microchipped...These thieves have a scanner on hand and scan all dogs for chips after they steel them...Dog has a chip ? Dog is dumped out and forgotten and hopefully will make it home...(This actually happened to me and she was the only dog of 17 dogs stolen in one county to be found)..

Here you can go to the shelter and get the chip for $10, or to the vet and it'll cost about $60...

The fact that you're worried tells me that you care about your dog..Get him chipped, o.k. ?

And yes, with a big fat juicy hot dog, almost any dog can be stolen..

  14. any dog can be stolen, has nothing to do with the size, people dont have to be able to pick them up to steal them.....dogs have feet.

  15. All dogs are at a risk of  being dog-napped. If it a pure breed then they are at a higher risk. Puppies are usually more prone to being napped then mature dogs because puppies are more trusting (but also more fear prone). You should keep the dog in the back yard or a place not viewable from the road (if you live in a rural area your usually at a very low risk for dog napping). I advise to keep the dog indoors while you are out in a crate, if you don't believe in crates then put the dog in a room where they will be content (these precautions are for puppies or mischievous dogs, if your dog is well behaved then letting him have the run of the house is advisable, or if you  keep him in a kennel then padlock it, or padlock your gate or fence). Big dogs can be subjected to napping but are at a lower risk. If you have large guard dog, they are probably safe.

  16. Depends how vicious they are.

  17. Pulling the leash is definitely different from running off while holding a big dog. But either could result in dog-napping.  So, my answer is yes.  One should never leave a leashed and socialized dog unattended.

In some places in this country, the bigger the dog, the more it is prone to being dog-napped because bigger means more meat!  ;))
