Are there any on the LPGA tour? That's something I just thought about. You don't even see any black men on the PGA tour besides Tiger Woods what is up with that? Even tennis has the Williams' sisters (though besides them you wont really see any african-americans playing tennis) Is it racist that I find this interesting?

  1. Here in Southern California I see plenty of Black Women that play Golf and a lot of Hispanic Women as well , not sure why ther is not a representation on the LPGA.

  2. Tiger Woods' neice, Cheyenne Woods, a black women, just committed to play golf at Wake Forest this september.  She is an incredible golfer and will probably take the LPGA by storm.

  3. thats like saying you dont see many white people playing in the NBA or NFL...unless its a QB or kicker.....i wouldnt say its racist, just how it is.  as far as black golfers you forgot about Vijay Singh.

  4. There aren't any currently on the LPGA tour, but that may change in the near future.  PGA Collegiate Minority Golf Tournament.  I saw highlights of it on the Golf Channel yesterday.  I'd never heard of this tournament and it has been going on for several years now.  It first started off as a tournament between historically black colleges.  The PGA now sponsors it.  Here's a link.  http://www.pga.com/2008/news/pga/04/16/m...

Much of what you're saying depends on where you live.  While you may not see many African Americans playing these sports professionally, there are many participating in them recreationally or semi-professionally.  If you look at these sports from a historical perspective, they're elitest sports.  From their early beginnings, these sports were played in private clubs that African-Americans were forbidden to be members of, but could work there.  The PGA tour did not allow African-Americans to play on tour until the late 60's.  African-Americans foray into golf was through the caddy system which was done away with in that same time period.  Why it isn't racist that you find this interesting depending on exactly why you find it interesting, but it is just another example of what racism is.

  5. black women play golf nonprofessionally im sure. there aren't any out there playing professionally though, but that doesn't mean that there hasn't been any in the past. there has been 3: althea gibson, renee powell, and laree pearl sugg. read the book UNEVEN LIES by pete mcdaniel, youll be up-to-date about african americans in golf with this book. tiger woods is not black, he's multiracial. and as far as black men on the pga there is Tim O'Neal, Andy Walker, and Kevin Hall.
