  1. I HAVE WONDERED THIS MYSELF FOR A LONG LONG TIME...

I'm not just wondering about dreams... because the mind can do some crazy things when your asleep... but how do they THINK?

Do the deaf think in hand signals?

I guess that there is no real way to know since it is something that is beyond their experience... It would be like a blind person asking a non blind person to describe the color orange... There are no words for the concept your trying to get across... So all we have to go on is MRI and sleep study documents...

And they say that because the blind and deaf all have the same PARTS of the brain as a non blind or deaf person, they can experience things in their sleep that they can't experience in their waking state because the mind, when asleep, reverts to it's primal, instinctual biological functions...

I think it is the same as how a blind person can "See Things" when they hallucinate... due to illness, not drugs... because the mind is throwing out sparks that are internally interpreted.

    Does that make sense?

  2. I know a young man (about 16 yrs. old) who is blind and plays on our music team at church.  I've talked to his mom about this same question and she tells me he is able to describe his dreams to her in detail as if he is actually seeing them.  I do believe they are God-given dreams where what he is unable to do in the natural, he can do while dreaming.  And yes he has been blind since infancy :).  God bless!!

  3. Blind People - Whether visual images will appear in their dream depends on  whether they where blind at birth or became blind later in life. But vision is not the only sense that constitutes a dream. Sounds, tactility, and smell become hypersensitive for the blind and their dreams are based on these senses.

As for the deaf, I think it would be the same. Just the other way around.

  4. I don't know the answer but you pose an interesting question!

  5. Most researchers believe that people who are blind from birth or who become blind in infancy do not see in their dreams. They do not retain visual imagery because it was never acquired in the first place.

if they weren't deaf their whole life they could possibly hear things in their dreams, because they could remember what it's like to hear things. I think though, if they were'nt deaf their whole life that they wouldn't be able to because they really don't fully understand what it's like to hear anything.

  6. yeah. probably  anything can happen in a dream, the dream i had last night  i dreamed i was flying !! LOL !
