Does media like Disney help or hurt the attitudes of young viewers by the moralizing propaganda they crank out? Does TimeWarner have a major role in Washington DC politics?

  1. Do you sit listen and watch the National Inquirer of TV news Fox News or Three hours of Rush Limbaugh who says nothing of moral values?

  2. I watch all that I watch with my eyes and ears open. Like it or not morality belongs in our media. People reflect the values they see and hear and if allowed children emulate it. Who's morality isn't at question, because we all know that there is a common good and evil that is easily recognizable.

  3. By asking the question, you demonstrate that you know the answer.  The USA's (not America's which is a continent), education system, and media, including Hollywood, are totally suborned to the right wing.  Fox was established with the express agenda to be so right wing as to make established media (already right wing - you aren't rich enough to own an outlet  without being part of the plutocracy which runs the US) appear left wing.

  4. These network outlets have only one mission. That is to attract a crowd. Then they can sell stuff to that captive audience. It is also my opinion that the young people are tuning in to "The Daily Show" and the "Colbert Report" on Comedy Central more than the network outlets you listed.

Although I'm far from young, my chief source of news since 1949 has been English language short wave radio. Thanks to  computer technology I can now listen to my favorite station using the web streaming feature. I also read the web editions of nearly one dozen daily newspapers from throughout the world. I simply won't devote time to watching news anchors who belong to the same trade union as Jay Leno and David Letterman or blindly watch the reports of  "reporters" who are (in the main) graduates of university-based schools of journalism where one only learns how to read and write a press release.

  5. MSNBC is a joke at least FOX tells both sides of a story.

  6. Man, I really hate that Disney corporation. But CNN really sets my tail on fire. I read that TimesWarner owns them and they are the biggest media conglomerate on the planet. They work like tag team wrestlers - congress, corporations and media. Yeh, they do propaganda on us and it works real good.

  7. Although Walt Disney has been gone for many years, he was said by some to have been a n**i sympathizer, and there is evidence that this was true.  Although the Disney organization is run by different people now, it certainly has a bias which clearly shows in the projects it chooses to develop, and of course this affects the people who view its movies.  Disney is a large, profitable corporation, which ought to tell you all you need to know.  Like all corporations, it is only under obligation to be politically correct to the extent that it is not caught breaking laws.  As with all corporations, it is not beholden to our government or any other.  It wants and is beholden to one thing only:  Profits.

Every media organization plays a major role in US politics.  The media are our (stilted) window on the world.  They tell us how to act, what opinions to hold, and what to buy.  They tell us not to be afraid because nothing is wrong, even though we know that there is.  If you ever get a chance to visit a country outside the US (particularly a third-world country), you will see how limited and biased our media is from the outside in, and also how other societies view ours.  You will see that we are not who we want to believe we are.

The reason is that we watch too much television, and worse yet, we are too naive to question its truthfulness or its motives.  We have become a politically lazy society.  Rampant consumerism is our religion.  We are content to sit and let someone else figure things out.  We deserve whatever we get.  The only surprise is that it hasn't happned sooner.
