  1. One can do it if the loan is only in that parent's name.


  2. Only one does.  It's a PITA btw... They owe us $4000, they are so bogged down and inept.  WE get bills, we pay bills, we cancel the loan, we pay the interest, they take the money from the school, we paid the money to them, they add more interest, school tells us the kid is not going to get grades or be allowed to register so we have to pay another $4000.  Now to wait 4-6 weeks for a refund and we're still out the interest.  We have over $8000 out on a $4000 loan.  Go figure?? It's a nightmare.  Nobody there can give an answer that is correct.
