  1. yes, according to mendelian laws, sometimes you get a surprise though!

  2. yes, but remember, everyone has two eye colours in their genes, so even if both parents have brown eyes their child could still have blue. If no one in their family has ever had blue eyes however, it is impossible.

  3. That's the general idea...

Although both parents would have to carry the recessive gene, the phenotype of eye color is composed of a genotype consisting in (as of now) three known genes that contribute to the overall color. Oftentimes, a child could even have a mix of the parents' eye colors. It's kind of odd, but I think it's the same for skin color as well.

Try this site, http://www.athro.com/evo/gen/inherit1.ht... It may explain things better than I did.

  4. Sorry I can't clearly recall. It's been a million years since I've had any biology classes. I wanted to chime in and tell you this.... A good friend of mine had a son a year ago. His father is a dark-skinned African-American man with brown eyes down the line for as long as anyone can remember (on both sides of his family. She is a dark, white woman with blue eyes. Their very handsome son has blue eyes! :-)

  5. i think only 1 parent has to have the recessive gene, but not sure....me and my hubby are both brown eyed... we have 2 blue eyed children cause there is a recessive gene on my side... from my dad... my childrens eyes are the exact same blue/grren color as my dads.
