Do braces affect life in high school?

Question

I'm going into tenth grade, and I had to get braces. They are going to come off around the end of eleventh grade, which really disappointments me because they are usually for younger children in middle school and also I have never kissed a girl before and it will be terrible to experience a first kiss with braces, and they generally look really ugly and make life worse. I just feel worse than you can imagine right now. I understand that braces are good for my teeth, and that "I'll be so happy when they're off". But I'm not worried about the future, I'm worried about right now and I'm just really anxious.

yeah i agree they do suck.... i had them for 2.5 years from 7th- end of 9th grade  but i am missing 2 of my front teeth and i had to get teeth implants  in 10th grade.... so i have been wearing a stupid plastic retainer for a couple of years now ... i didnt have any problem with stuff.... i dated a guy with braces  it wasn't too bad just make sure if you eat that there isn't any food stuck in them

Not my granddaughters high school!

I know, because she lives with me.

Having braces seems to be some sort of "status symbol".

During football season, she and about 20 of her friends, including the boys, enjoy wearing the school colors; they're in band and have to be color coordinated with their uniforms.

And, they all go to the same orthodontist.

He once told that he is so glad they don't all come in on the same day.

As for kissing, my granddaughter and her boyfriend have braces. She hasn't complained about the braces getting in the way, so I guess it's not a problem.

omg just keep them clean and no one will mind

ALWAYS make sure there is NO food in them and if you are nice and good looking the braces should be no problem. my friends (whos a girl) has braces and she kissed fine so i wouldnt worry about that, i know alot of people who have braces and kiss fine. (well not from my experience lmao im not a lezz...) omg i dont mean i know she kissed good... just this guy said she did.. ok lets not go there. anyways you'll be fine just keep em clean.

oh my god i know exactly how u feel. im going into eighth grade im getting braces and i am freaked. and im on the same wavelength as you when people say "u will look so much better when they come off". i dont care about the freaking future im living life TODAY! i would just remind yourself that some metal on your teeth doesnt make u a different person, and your friends will be there to back you up. if u can, get them colored so its more of a fashion statement. and think that when you do get ur 1st kiss, the girl will know u have braces, and she wont mind them if she wants to kiss you, duh! just calm yourself down with breathing exercises (the best is breathe in through ur nose and out through ur mouth) and try to fucus on hobbies so u dont feel anxious. i wish you luck, i hope i helped!
