Simple question, just yesterday I went to my dentist whom I have not seen in months and he said I need to get some fillings plus some of my teeth including my permanent dentures have grown in crooked. And after my fillings he suggest I get braces. I visited him because I couldnt sleep at nights because of a pain in my mouth and I had a wisdom tooth needing pulling out. It's all well and good since he pulled out my wisdom tooth but still kinda hurts. anyways to get back to the question, do braces hurt after being put on. DO they hurt during they are being placed?

  1. When they are putting the braces on it doesn't hurt at all! All that they are doing is gluing brackets to your teeth. Right after you get them on they feel really tight though. For about a week afterwards your teeth are really sore and your cheeks have sores on them from the braces but it gets way better. Plus every time you get them tightened they hurt for about a week.

    Hope this helps  :-$

  2. Braces don't really hurt when they're being put on but for up to a week afterwards your teeth will be sore. I just recomend eating soft food and absolutely no hard food (carrots are a big no no, they snapped my wires three times, same with gum balls).

Don't worry, it's something that almost everyone does and eventually you'll get used to it.

  3. no they do not hourt when being put on there is just a bit of pressure but after it starts to hurt after a few hours

  4. They don't hurt being put on.

They only hurt afterward and when they're tightened.

Good Luck with the braces! :D

  5. Getting them put on doesn't hurt, it feels very awkward when your teeth are sanded so theres a smooth surface for the brace to hold to your tooth.  For about 4-5 days after there put on your teeth will be very sore. It will be hard to eat any hard food haha. After your teeth move and reposition themselves to that position the pain ceases until your next adjustment which will leave your teeth sore. Not as sore as when you first get them on however. Braces are mostly just an uncomfortable nerve racking event considering it takes about an hour to have them put on.

  6. they might be a little sore afterwards and it will last about a few weeks. my moms a dentist and she says that you can eat anything as long as your carefull. good luck!

  7. When you go in to get the braces put on, you dont feel a thing.  All that they do is use a strong water-proof epoxy to glue the individual brackets onto each tooth.  Once the glue sets, then a shaped wire is attatched to the brackets.

That is where the discomfort starts.  The wire is shaped in a way as to create pressure on certain points of your teeth.  The pressure on the brackets causes your teeth to shift into he correct position.  It usually hurts pretty badly the first few days after a new wire is put in, or rubber bands are put on.  After the main shifting is done, it doesnt hurt so bad, or at all sometimes, for another month.  Then you get them adjusted and the fun starts all over again.

It is all worth it in the end, though..
