  1. Only feed egg flakes when in breeding condition and in small quantities either wet or dry.(if used wet remove at end of day)

The best thing to feed your birds on is a Good quality seed mix,Budgie mix with a little Hemp,Sunflower and groats.

I would not use pellets for Kakarikis.(or any of the species I have bred)

Greens such as Broccoli, Kale,Spinach.and if you can get hold of Dandelion leaves, the seeding heads before they burst, never give them Lettuce.

Soaked seed of the above is also a must, soak some of the seed in warm, water over-night drain ,rinse place somewhere warm till it sprout(2-3-days)then feed this to them.

Also include in their diet Apple,Willow twigs and fruit for a successful breeding and health regime.

Don't forget Cuttlebone and Mineral block.

It worked for me every time.

  2. Breeding parrots in general should be fed a quality pelleted food along with a variety of healthy fruits and veggies, beans, cheese, hard-boiled or scrambled egg and whole grains. Nothing with sugar, and nothing that is packaged, or processed. Just quality, healthy foods in good variety. Mealworms can be added to the diet while they are breeding as well. Mmmmm....
