Do brillo pads dull knives when used to clean?

Question

I often have rust spots on my good steak knives. I try to wash them by hand but sometimes, if crunched for time, I toss them in the dishwasher (I know, I know, I'm not supposed to). :-)

But if I use brillo pads on the knives to clean them, will that dull the blades?

Just work from the other side of the blade.  You never want to have the sharp edge of the blade facing your fingers.
