  1. Whenever I hear someone talking in a thick Yorkshire accent I'm always like "Whuuuut?!"

  2. no, i can understand anyone

  3. Well, Hugh Laurie (the guy that plays Greg House on "House") is British and he says faking an American accent is the hardest part of his job, especially when there's also medical terminology too.

  4. yes, im a south england person and when i lived in newcastle for a while i could not understand a word they said to me!

  5. My husband is a Scottsman and he has no problem understanding most British accents, but when we were in Glasgow recently we met a woman with such a broad accent it was difficult for even him to understand her.  He can usually understand most American English speakers even when they cannot understand him.  But for the most part, he can understand what other English speaking people are saying.  Then again, I have a hard time understanding some of the people I see on the cops shows and I can't tell if they are speaking English or some made-up language that came with the whiskey bottle or the crack-pipe!

  6. I think other people have more trouble understanding us. Especially the jocks.

  7. Apart from really thick Glaswegian accents, I can understand just about anything.

  8. i find it hard with some ppl like the cockneys and the scouse... the gordies av a strong accent aswell...

  9. probably. everyone has trouble with other people's accents, regardless of if they are from the same country.

I remember one chick was talking about "stockings" once, but the statement made no sense to me.

It wasn't until later on, when I realized she was trying to say "stalkings".

Where she was from, the two words are pronounced exactly the same. Where I am from, they are distinctly different in sound.

Other examples of her accent included her indistinguishable differences of "when" and "win", "pen" and "pin", "pull" and "pool". You can see how this led to some bizarre misunderstandings!
