  1. A budgie, is a household pet. They don't live in the desert.

  2. Sorry, Mel, you got that one wrong.  Budgerigars do not belong in cages, but in huge flocks in arid and semi-arid areas of Australia.

  3. The map in my bird book shows them occurring throughout the interior of Australia but not in any coastal areas.

    "Arid and semi-arid woodlands, grasslands."

So since most of the major cities are close to the coast you wouldn't expect to see budgies there, I've certainly never seen any wild ones in Perth.

    Yeah, I guess I like budgies  :-)

We have lots of other cool little parrots too, galahs, twentyeights, corellas and red capped parrots all hang out in my garden.

  4. Hahahaha arn't you cute.

  5. Since its introduction into captivity, the Budgerigar (or "budgie") has been bred into a variety of colour forms, including pure white, blue, yellow, mauve, olive and grey. In the wild, the Budgerigar is green and yellow, with black barring above, and a small patch of blue on its cheek. The male has a dark blue cere (skin at the base of the upper mandible surrounding the nostrils). In the female this is brownish when breeding and light blue otherwise.

The Budgerigar occurs naturally throughout much of mainland Australia, but is absent from the far south-west, the north of the Northern Territory, Tasmania and the majority of the east coast. It is nomadic and large flocks of birds can be seen in most open habitat types, but seldom far from water.
