I just moved in to a brand new apartment and there are wires hanging out of the wall for a phone connection. The builder claims that the phone company will install it. I feel he should do it.

  1. no the electritian puts it in

  2. our builder is correct it should be the phone company. if the don't you can hire an electrician from any electric company. good luck

  3. it is the phone company's  job.

  4. He is correct. Normally the homeowner, the phone company, or the person whom pre-wired the phone lines should set the jacks.

I would ask the builder who did the phone wiring!

  5. You can wire it in yourself very easily and save a 75.00 to 150.00 dollar charge that the phone company will charge you..Here is a video on how to do so..the back of the plug has different screws for the different color of wires on it..each s***w is marked rigth by it on the plastic Y for yellow..G for green...R for red etcetera....If you think you cannot do it..just about anybody that knows how to use a s***w driver can..very simple..

  6. no,it not his work

  7. I'm a builder.  I do install at least two jacks per house.  Usually 3 because of the sat dishes.  I don't have to.  I just always have.

No wires should have been left hanging out of the box.  He should put a cover over them and wrapped the wires inside the box.  If you don't plan on getting service ask him to put covers on or provide them to you so you can do it.  These are cheap.  You can buy at stores like Lowes or Home Depot.

He doesn't have to put the jacks in unless spelled out in your spec sheet.  Many today never get a home phone service.  To keep you happy he probably will if you ask him nice.  Check and make sure the phone company doesn't do it for free with a new service.

This isn't something to make a big deal about.  Try to maintain a good relationship with your builder.  You may need him for something far more important.
