I know an MBA would be better of course but are they in need or receptive to those people who got a Masters in English?

  1. I have had instances where I hid my MBA from my Resume.  On a reply mail that a division manager sent to his supervisors (and that I got by mistake), he expressed his concerns about hiring someone with so much education.

An MBA (or graduate degree in general) alone will not cut the cheese, and can actually hurt you.  Many potential employers will see you as too expensive and mobile a candidate.  Others will simply not hire someone with higher levels of education than themselves.

I wish I could tell you otherwise, but the MBA has in occassions been a liability to me.  I guess I am saying, your MA in arts might be as good as the MBA.  I am also saying, good luck with it!  I could not do much with my degree.

  2. Really depends on the job.  I know of a lady that had a Bachelors in English from Purdue, and a company hired her just because she had a 4.0 form Purdue.  They had not decided what to do with her; but they knew she would be a value to them.  Eventually they put her in Research, where she worked with the scientist to publish articles, and work on court documents for clients.
