Hello,

I am very new in job, i got an opportunity to work in a company but they want me to be flexible in travel, and very extensive travel, they said it will be like 70 to 80% and on short notice. I have no experience with that and i am really wondering, is it something gonna make me very tired? it will be annoying? do you have experience with that?

ahh one more thing, when you go in business trip, where you stay? in hotel? private or shared place? the more info you can give me from your experience will be really appreciated :)

Thanks in advance.

  1. Congratulations on the job. Many of your questions depends on YOU, your tolerance, personality, ability to adjust. Personally I travel a lot like this and it is fine with me and for me. I enjoy it, thrive on it.  Sometimes it does make me tired depending on how many times I change time zones.  The annoying part is the rude, ignorant people you encounter when traveling or the people that insist on talking when on a flight and you are trying to read, listen to music, watch movie or sleep.

You will stay in  hotel either you pay and are re-imbursed or the company pays and makes reservation or you get company credit card to use.  I usually stay in places that I have what I need when traveling, desk, tv, radio, internet, ease and closeness of destination, food, work out room.  Good luck. You will do great

  2. You should always have a private hotel room.  You will be tired, especially if they are very short engagements because you will fly out early in the morning and return, generally, at night.  however, if you are not over worked you should get a day or a half day off after a business trip.  If you are a consultant, lawyer, or in finance this will probably not be true because you will not be working 40 hour weeks.  70% to 80% is a lot.  and travel is very time consuming.  Lawyers love travel because travel time is billable, but consultants don't usually keep track of hours in that way and it can be a pain to travel that much.

On teh bright side, you do get to keep travel miles and hotel points for personal travel.

  3. some times but in the end it fun ive stayed in a hotel most of the time shared with co wokers. I think the best thing about it is seeng something new and shopping geting to know all kinds of city taking pics its fun but after work iv gone to san fran, sactown, seattle, portland, denver, new york, gorga, kansas and arizona phonix and messa so it is fun.

  4. Business trips can be great, but you have to take a lot of responsibility for your own health, well-being, and safety. For instance, often when you travel, you will be doing business with colleagues or clients you may not see frequently. It is much more common to go out for large dinners or long happy hours on a business trip than in your day-to-day life. That leads to less sleep and generally not feeling so hot. So you have to be aware and cognizant of too much "partying" - since it won't feel like partying as you'll be with colleagues instead of friends.

Business trips can also be lonely - especially if you limit the partying. :-) Make sure you have things to keep you occupied during your downtime, since hotel rooms get boring really quickly.

In general though, I love traveling for business. Hope you do too.
