Question:

Do calluses from playing guitar flatten the finger tip when playing?

I am a beginner guitar player and my calluses have been developing for about a week now. It's starting to hurt less when I play, but I seem to have greater difficulty preventing my fingers from touching the string below them, thus causing a slight damping when I play chords.

Is this normal during callus development? It seems like my fingers may be flattening when I play. Is that to be expected? If so, how do I keep from damping the strings? Will this come with practice?

  1. yes -look at your feet as they are covered in callouses.  talk to your instructor about some techniques that can help you play better.
