Do cameras and lenses get damaged when going through xray at airport security?

if so, is there any way around it (other than putting it in luggage)

  1. Cameras can be put through the x-ray machine. Most films should be OK. But some are not OK. I would suggest that you request for a hand check.

  3. No. Very high speed film (ASA1000 or higher) can be fogged, and you should ask to have that hand searched.

  4. Cameras, I guess you mean digital? No, they are not damaged. Your luggage is x-rayed, too.

  5. For digital cameras and corresponding lenses, no - they will be unaffected.

    For film, you can request a hand search - try to keep them out of the machine.
