Do cameras and lenses get damaged when going through xray at airport security?

Cameras can be put through the x-ray machine. Most films should be OK. But some are not OK. I would suggest that you request for a hand check.

No. Very high speed film (ASA1000 or higher) can be fogged, and you should ask to have that hand searched.

Cameras, I guess you mean digital? No, they are not damaged. Your luggage is x-rayed, too.

For digital cameras and corresponding lenses, no - they will be unaffected.

For film, you can request a hand search - try to keep them out of the machine.
