  1. Nope.. and we pay for health care by taxes

  2. No free car insurance. But we do have a general provincial health insurance that covers a wide variety of medical expenses.

  3. no way.  but not a bad idea...

  4. HAHAHA...ya free health care........NO,

i wish ......i pay 108 dollars a month for me and my son for Alberta health care. i don't even go to the doctor every month i am lucky if i go every 4 or 5 months. so i am paying for nothing. i wish we had real FREE health care. the only thing is we don't have to pay when we walk into a doctors office or the hospital that's why they call it free.

  5. I wish we had free insurance!!

A friend of mine lives in Ohio and she pays $20 a month for her own car... I think some of the states have alot better auto insurance then us. I pay $132 a month for my car. And thats fairly cheap considering my driving record!

  6. As the person above said, "free" healthcare is a myth.  Not only do people above the poverty line pay premiums, but we all pay for our health care through our taxes.  It's definitely not free.

However, if you need to see a doctor, there's no co-pay fees, and you don't have to worry about if your doctor is covered by your insurance policy.  They're all covered.   When you leave a hospital, you don't have a bill waiting for you when you get home.

Our health care isn't perfect, and it can use a lot of doctoring itself, but for me, it's valuable and a big part of the Canadian identity.

As far as car insurance... In British Columbia the major auto insurance company (ICBC) is a crown corp (part of the government), but it sure isn't free!  Gasp.....

  7. The idea of free healthcare is a myth - there is a universal health insurance system, but it is not free, and for people on low incomes, not much better than the American system. In fact, a lot of Canadians end up going to the US for elective surgeries and procedures like MRIs because the waits here are ridiculous. For the average working person, if your employer doesn't pay the premiums, you pay about $120 a month for "free" health insurance. And just like the US, if you don't have insurance, you can still get treated at a hospital - it just takes a lot longer and you are treated like a second class citizen.

By the way - no free auto insurance either. I pay about 400 a year more for insurance on my Mustang than I would pay in Washington state.
